The Background & Benefits of Early Treatment
At Coastal Carolina Orthodontics, nothing makes us happier than perfecting a smile, and sometimes that process needs to begin early on in a patient’s life.
Our Orthodontists are proud to help younger patients with their early orthodontic treatment in order to best detect and prevent problems before they develop.
When & Why
One of the most common questions our team at Coastal Carolina Orthodontics hears is: “When should my child begin seeing an orthodontist?” Our team loves this question, as it shows that parents are thinking ahead about the future dental health of their children – a mindset crucial to obtaining a long lasting, healthy smile.
Along with the American Association of Orthodontists, the teams at our Jacksonville, Morehead City, and Havelock, NC offices recommend that parents bring their children in to see us by age seven. For, while we may not need to start treatment at this time, by age seven a child’s backbite has been established, which allows your orthodontist to spot any current or potential issues and determine the best time to take action against them.
If immediate interceptive treatment is necessary, we can work on it right away. This early intervention will aid us in stopping major problems before they progress in severity, and permit us to take advantage of the malleability of your child’s mouth to expedite treatment.
Your Child’s First Visit
During your child’s initial exam, your orthodontist will perform a thorough orthodontic evaluation, identifying any current or developing problems such as: open bite, deep bite, crowding, or crossbites. If problems are severe, or the doctor spots a significant issue that might hinder proper development, we may recommend interceptive treatment.
At Coastal Carolina Orthodontics, our number one priority is helping our patients achieve the healthy, beautiful smiles they deserve. And, evaluating a patient early is the best way to achieve this.
